Wine, Wedderwill and Birdsong!

Wedderwill Wine Bird-watching & Photographic Trail – Sunday 23 October 10h00 – 16h00

Watch big screen World Cup rugby and experience the elements and Spring with a glass or two of Wedderwill – wines shaped by ‘the will of the weather’, while bird-watching and taking photographs.
Take leisurely walks through the vineyards, game park, fynbos and mountain trails while enjoying the scenery, flora and fauna. Photographic opportunities aplenty.

More than 50 different bird species. Of the +/- 850 bird species recorded in South Africa, about 725 are resident or annual visitors, and 50 of these are endemic or near-endemic and can only be seen in South Africa. Apart from resident birds, South Africa hosts a number of intra-African migrants such as cuckoos and kingfishers, as well as birds from the Arctic, Europe, Central Asia, China and Antarctica during the year.

Wolfgang von Loeper and guest speakers give interesting talks on Wedderwill’s biodynamic winemaking approach. Learn about ancient farming techniques, biodiversity, conservation, soils and the effects weather has on vines and the art of winemaking.

Enjoy a relaxing picnic and savour our weathered history in each sip of our delicious wines. Submit your bird spotting list and photographs to publish on our website. Plenty of prizes to be won, including a weekend for four at the Wedderwill summer cottage retreat.
Bring hiking shoes, binoculars, camera gear, camping chair and water bottle.
Whatever the weather, there’s always Wedderwill.

  1. Peter says:

How proud you can be to be part of the family that owns Wedderwill, and to be able to carry on the farming tradition of your Prussian forebears!
About the soils on Wedderwill: it is definitely not from Malmesbury geology. Check it out.
