What truly makes Wedderwill unique in the world, is that we have taken Rudolph Steiner’s anthroposophy approach a step further. Our revolutionary Biodynamic preparations are the result, combining ocean water, unpasteurised cow’s milk, specially filtered zeolite dust (a dolomitic type of rock), and fermented plant extracts made from beefwood, seaweed and other herbal plants such as Horsetail, Dandelion, Nettles, and Comphrey. Used as a spray, these inhibit pathogenic fungal growth. You simply won’t find these sprays anywhere else, with even the most dedicated Biodynamic farms still making use of copper and sulphur.
Our unique Biodynamic preparations also include vine shoots, which contain Resvaterol. (This is the compound doctors refer to when they say drinking red wine is good for the heart.) Resvaterol has anti-fungal properties, extracted via a special, two-month fermentation process, using micro-organisms. The resulting liquid is then added to our sprays, and has proved extremely successful. A team from Stellenbosch University is even running scientific tests on the project.
“Wedderwill has a very refreshing approach to viticulture and their drive to sustainable farming also finds support from the Department of Viticulture and Oenology, Stellenbosch University. We currently assist by providing the results of a complex analysis tracing the phenolic component resvaterol obtained through Wedderwill’s fermented plant extracts of vine canes with micro-organisms. We closely follow their activities of using it as part of their anti-pathogenic spray and support them with advice. We are also planning to do some further laboratory tests on these extracts in terms of its anti-pathogenic activity”
