Wedderwill and Stellenbosch University Research Trial

True to their ongoing quest of ‘working with nature’, Wedderwill, together with the Stellenbosch University, is performing the only trial project in South Africa aimed at extracting Resvaterol. The same phenolic component which is found in red wines which doctors say is good for your heart. Resvaterol has strong anti-fungal properties and could potentially be used effectively against fungal infections such as Downey or Powdery mildew in vineyards.
“What we do is extract the phenols from pruned vine cane shoots through fermentation, which is then analyzed for Resvaterol” says Wolfgang von Loeper.
These homemade extracts are sprayed onto the vineyards as a natural ‘potion’.
